Rupert Grint Biography


Childhood

Rupert Alexander Grint was born August 24, 1988 in Watton-at-Stone, Hertfordshire which is roughly 30 miles north of London. Born to parents Jo and Nigel Grint, Rupert was the first, with four siblings following him. Rupert's parents picked his name out of and hat, the first name drawn was Rupert. Rupert meaning, "bright fame" according to it's Germanic origin. His mother Jo (nee Parson) was a housewife while his father Nigel Grint was a former race car driver who gave up the track to collect and sell memorabilia and be close to his family. Following the birth of Rupert, his parents, had four more children. James was born in 1990, Georgina was born in 1993, Samantha was born in 1996 and the baby Charlotte was born in 1998. As a child Rupert loved to play with yo-yo's and when he wasn't playing with them he was on stage performing. Rupert really enjoyed theater and he appeared in many school and community playing many different characters such as, a fish in Noah's Ark, a donkey in nativity play,  Rooster in Annie and Rumple in Rumpelstiltskin.

Becoming Ron Weasley

Rupert Grint loved the Harry Potter books so much when they first came out. Once he heard that they were auditioning for parts in the movie Grint filled out the paperwork and submitted them to the casting director. He was getting nervous because he had not heard anything and other kids told him that they sent in home video auditions and Grint did not. Immediately Grint grabbed him video recorder and his mom and he shot his audition tape. In the tape he dressed up as his female drama teacher and rapped about why he thought he should get the part in the movie. The casting director loved his performance and brought him into the studio for a live performance. Rupert Grint was given the role of Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies.

Movies

  • In 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007 Rupert Grint starred in the epic Harry Potter movies. It has been said that the last two movies will be released in 2008 and 2010.
  • 2002, Grint, the first of the Harry Potter trio to accept a role outside Harry Potter, took on a comedy titled, Thunderpants. Grint played Allan A. Allen in this British comedy about a "lovable, nerd, genius, young mad scientist."
  • 2006 starred in Driving Lessons which co-starred Laura Linney and Julie Walters who plays Ron Weasley mom in the Harry Potter movies.

Radio/TV

  • Rupert Grint lent his voice to Nigel Moleworth in the BCC radio series, "Baggey Trousers"
  • Grint also lent his voice to Peter Pan in the BBC documentary titled, "Happy Birthday, Peter Pan."

Leaving His Mark

Rupert Grint is known for being a down-to-earth, friendly, easygoing and shy young man. Over the past eight years the audience has watched him evolved both on screen and off . While filming all the Harry Potter's Grint has been leaving his mark all over the world.

  • Along with fellow cast mates, Grint was cemented him name, hand, feet and wand in front of the famous Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood.
  • Academy Golden Satellite gave Grint Special Achievement Award for Outstanding New Talent.
  • In 2002 he was awarded with the title of Most Promising Newcomer according to Young Artist Special.
  • The Harry Potter movies had made more movies in the box office than any other movie.

  • Director of Harry Potter Prisoner of Azkban, Alfonso Cuaron says of Rupert Grint, " (he is) likely future star out of the Hogswarts trio."

Getting personal with Rupert Grint

  • As a child, Grint wanted to be an ice cream man, so he bought an ice cream truck.
  • Bought his family a new house in Hertfordshire where his family and he still lives.
  • Rupert loves animals so much that he could have a mini zoo with all the pets he owns. Sergeant Montgomery; basest hound, Ruby; black labrador, Fudge; chocolate labrador; ginger colored cat, 2 tortoises, 2 rats. One of his two rats, Mosh Pit appeared in Harry Potter Prisoner of Azkban as Scabber's.

  • Grint admitted the weirdest place he has ever slept was in a bouncy castle.

  • Failed his driver test on his first try however passed with flying colors his second time.
