Battlestar Galactica continues to fall apart while Kara Thrace (Katee Sackhoff) continues to struggle with finding her rotting corpse on Earth. Things look hopeless for the ragtag team and we now learn that Starbuck has been acting as CAG in pursuit of "any inhabitable rock."
None of this stops democracy from moving forward, however, as we discover a Six (Tricia Helfer) has been elected to the new Quorum! And they're hellbent on having Boomer (Grace Park) executed for treason. Adama (Edward James Olmos) has his own issues with her given she attempted to assassinate him and Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) finds his old feelings for her resurfacing over the news. So let's see where this week's episode of Battlestar Galactica is taking us...
Samuel Anders (Michael Trucco) is still in a coma, but even the doctor is confused by the readings of his brain activity. Poor Chief Tyrol is torn by the news about Boomer, reliving the memories they shared. We finally get to see Helo (Tahmoh Penikett) again - we've missed him! Always honorable and full of life, he presents Kara with a gift - all of her stuff that she had lost when the crew thought she was dead. Hera gives Kara a drawing of some stars; given Hera's prophetic and clouded role in this unfolding drama, it undoubtedly has great significance.
The chemistry between Boomer and Tyrol is so strong, so heart-wrenching, that it's hard to watch. Given everything that's happened, I can't help but feel sorrow for her. I don't want her to die. Tyrol visits her in the brig and before long, they touch and find themselves on Pycon; as Cylons, they can project images of their environment and Boomer took him to where they would have lived together. It scared him so much he ran out of the brig!
The Final Five sit down to discuss Boomer's fate. Tyrol's the only one who wants to prevent it, but the others are convinced that justice must run its course. He goes back to see her and asks her how long she has been going to the home in Pycon. It's clear she's been going there for quite some time. It becomes so bittersweet; their history is so real. Together, they go back to share a moment together where all problems have disappeared. He discovers she's raised a family with him, a young girl who looks so much like her mother. They laugh and cry together. It's heart-breaking.
Kara makes a new friend with a pianist who is trying to compose a new piece. We learned of Kara's love for classical music back on Caprica when her and Helo visited her apartment. It seems so long ago now; to them, to us. This journey that started more than half a decade ago is now coming to a close. Suddenly, the mood changes. We see Kara in the hanger deck, watching herself as a little girl, playing the piano. As she approaches the little girl, she turns around to reveal Kara's corpse once again. She's haunted by what she does not know or understand. She confides in the pianist; no one else knows and she picks a complete stranger.
And now we find Tyrol pleading with the President to stop the extradition of Boomer. In her typical cold manner, she accuses Sharon of "preying on human emotions." She could care less about the Chief's feelings. Sometimes, let's face it, I can't stand that woman. I really can't. The Admiral just watches, without a single word. We know from previous episodes that he has mixed feelings over what Boomer did; I don't believe that he wants to see her killed any more than Chief Tyrol.
But that was enough for the Chief. Screw the President. He grabs a wrench and everything goes dark. It looks like he busted her out and replaced her with a different Six! The other Cylons would know who she is, so how does he expect to hide her from everyone? It isn't long before we find her in the shower and a Six does indeed immediately recognize her; she attacks her mercilessly. Was it Athena?
Indeed, it was. Helo can't recognize his own wife! They start making out when Athena begins to regain consciousness in a bathroom stall, but not enough to actually say or do anything. It's hard to believe that Boomer is just trying to cover up what she has done; she's certainly enjoying herself and betraying Tyrol.
Back in the bar, Kara and the pianist are still talking, working together to compose a piece of music, when suddenly she understands what the drawing from Hera was for. It's a composition, the song that awoke the Cylons from their sleep. And it's a song she knows, a song from her past. The Final Five are clearly disturbed by it. They confront her.
Next, Boomer steals Hera and we watch as she gets ready to take off in a raptor. Chief Tyrol stays behind, completely unaware of what Boomer has planned. Without a doubt, she's going to go back to Cavil with Boomer. Helo finds Athena and quickly learns the truth. Oh, my Gods. The Admiral tries to stop her from leaving the hangar deck. Boomer just barely escapes and then jumps right next to the Battlestar, causing a series of explosions. The President falls to the ground after recognizing Hera is gone. Tyrol projects himself into their "fake home" only to discover that no one is home, and the episode comes to a close.
Admittedly, the second half of this season that we waited so long to watch has been moving at a much slower pace, but now it feels right. It's about closure, and we're getting very close to what will undoubtedly be an explosive series ending. Tonight's episode is the very last one before the two-part finale!
