Randy Jackson gives it to you straight, Kara DioGuardi is the new one, Paula Abdul fluffs up your ego, and Simon Cowell tears it down. The dynamic of the judges have not changed in eight seasons except this season we have a new judge that fits nicely into the mix. Kara is half Randy, half Simon which makes the panel twice as interesting.
This week began a new chapter for American Idol when 12 of the top 36 performed for two hours on Tuesday night. America can only vote 3 of the 12 contestants into the Top 12 for season eight. PopStar spoke with the Top 3 winners from Wednesday's elimination showcase about their instant rise to Idol fame and what is next for the hopeful contestants.
PopStar was at a recent press conference with the Top 3 American Idol winners, Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver and Danny Gokey. We were able to speak with two out of the three winners who were all so happy and relived to be off the chopping block for the next three weeks.
PopStar: Can you explain to us what a typical day is like on the set of Idol?
Alexis Grace: Well, there’s a lot of waiting around. No - you know what? Backstage, we’re just all hanging out, trying to keep calm and relaxed. We like to play board games. I’m a big fan of Scrabble and Scattergories. We just sit around, chit-chat and just have fun, just trying to ease the tension a little bit. When you get out there on stage, it’s showtime and you do what you’re there to do.
PopStar: Can you take us through your thought process when you picked your audition song, “Heard it Through the Grapevine?”
Danny Gokey: Yes. The thought process behind that was it showed my range. It was a fun song and the number one thing is it showed my ability. And so, that was actually the whole point of singing that song.
