In Crest Point, life is pretty average, except for the minor fact that mysteriously town residents keep disappearing. Jarod Leary (Jeremy Sumpter) is a seventeen year old high school student who refuses to fit in and finds comfort in solitude. Bullied by the jocks and teased by the cheerleader, the fatherless loner turns to drugs and self-mutilation as an escape outlet. When his mother urges him to get an after school job, Jarod finds himself working at a neighborhood funeral home.
Stan (Brad Dourif) is the owner of the local funeral home where Jarod finds work; the two loners quickly hit it off and embark on an extremely unusual partnership. Jarod takes to his new job and not before long people in the town of Crest Point begin to go missing. When the popular girl Lindsey Weaver (Kate Maher), her parents Bill (Daniel Baldwin) and Becky (Staci Keanan) disappear, they enlist the help of Detective Fairchild (Scott Elrod) to find their missing daughter.
Soon enough, the once quaint town erupts into panic as more clues come to light on the mysterious happenings in Crest Point. As Detective Fairchild begins to zero in on Stan, he must decide if his newfound protege is worth killing for.
