History does repeat itself. The Titanic has sunk again! Avatar (2009) has done the impossible and beat out the unbeatable in the box office. Movie goers are not surprised that the film has done so well, but have you seen the latest grossing figure, it is beyond huge!
Official word came from Fox declaring Avatar (2009) as the highest grossing film of all time, beating out James Cameron's '97 blockbuster Titanic (1997). To date, the film has grossed over $1.859B and still holds the number one spot at the box office six weeks into its theatrical run. Cameron won a Golden Globe for Best Director and with the Academy Awards looming one can only hope it takes home the Oscar.

The film has been able to reach record setting heights due to the increase in ticket prices for theatrical, 3-D, and IMAX. The haters might get caught up on that fact, but at the end of the day, once again director James Cameron has delivered a masterpiece for movie goers. Many are reporting that due to inflation, Avatar (2009) would have to stay on the current trend for the next six months to become the domestic ruler of the films, stealing the title from Gone With the Wind (1939) which has earned $1.5B to date.
