Kudos to Summit Entertainment; Twilight to Theaters on 11/21

Well, this is certainly a cause for celebration!  After the announcement by Warner Brothers that they were pulling Harry Potter from this year's theaters -- a dramatic and disappointing move -- Summit Entertainment decided to take the slot and bring Twilight to theaters sooner!

What do I have to say about this?  Good for them! Clearly, Summit understands what it means to take care of their fan base!  (Warner Brothers, are you taking notes?!)  We'll have to wait until Summer of 2009 before the next installment of Harry Potter comes out, but at least we can all sit back and watch Twilight almost a full month earlier than originally expected!

POPSTAR.COM HAS HAD ITS OWN REPERCUSSIONS AS A RESULT OF BOTH OF THESE MOVES!  WE WERE JUST RAMPING UP FOR A HUGE HARRY POTTER CONTEST WHICH WE HAD TO CANCEL BEFORE WE EVEN MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT!  AND WITH TWILIGHT HITTING THEATERS SOONER, WE'LL HAVE TO MAKE SOME ADJUSTMENTS TO OUR CURRENTLY RUNNING TWILIGHT SAGA CONTEST.  (NOT TO WORRY, WE'LL BE GIVING AWAY THE TICKETS IN TIME FOR THE OPENING NIGHT - BUT EXPECT A WHOLE LOT MORE PRIZES TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON!  EVERYTHING FROM SIGNED AUTOGRAPHS TO HIGH-QUALITY JEWELRY!)

Here is the press release from Summit regarding the bold move:

SUMMIT ENTERTAINMENT MOVES UP RELEASE DATE FOR
TWILIGHT TO NOVEMBER 21, 2008

Los Angeles, CA August 15, 2008 — TWILIGHT, the first film in Summit Entertainment's thriller romance franchise, has moved up its North American release date to Friday, November 21, 2008. The film, which was previously planned to be released on December, 12, 2008, is taking advantage of an opening in the upcoming fall release calendar. The new release date for TWILIGHT allows the studio to both bring the film to the written-series' enormous fan base sooner, and to present the film in more theatres prior to the holiday movie-going season where traditionally screen time for any popular film is limited.

"When Warner Bros. decided to move HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE to the summer of 2009, we saw a unique opportunity to slot in our film which has been gaining tremendous awareness and momentum over the past several months," said Rob Friedman, Co-Chairman
