By now, most anyone in the Twilight (2008) universe knows that Lionsgate is interested in acquiring Summit Entertainment, but perhaps we should take a look at what kind of consequences this could have for The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) and the rest of the Twilight (2008) franchise itself.
Lionsgate's portfolio of movies include Saw (2004), Saw II (2005), Saw III (2006), Saw IV (2007), Saw V (2008), and, believe it or not, a currently-in-production Saw VI (2009)! Let's just say that after seeing parts of the first one, nothing, and I do mean nothing, could ever convince me to sit through what I consider to be the most distasteful franchise ever created.
I'd like to say there's a flip side to the movies they produce and/or distribute, but they are responsible for gore and violence in every flavor imaginable: The Midnight Meat Train (2008), Hostel (2005), Hostel: Part II (2007), Diary of a Serial Killer (1998), Penny Dreadful (2006), Confessions of a Pit Fighter, and Slaughter High. Does anyone see a pattern here? So what happens if Lionsgate get their claws into Summit?
I've been monitoring many of the forums and news postings on the subject, and most everyone seems to think that it would be a good thing for Twilight (2008). They say it might give it a bigger budget, better special effects, and perhaps a bit more "blood." Is that what Twilighters want? More blood? I thought Twilight was about love and all that happy, fuzzy stuff.
With a track record of movies like those produced and distributed by Lionsgate, what do you think would happen to the Twilight (2008) movie franchise? This isn't Warner Brothers, after all. They've done an excellent job of portraying the Harry Potter movie franchise; I'd rather see them take the reigns than a company like Lionsgate. No offense to Lionsgate intended, but they clearly have a taste for blood-thirsty killing. Does that sound like "vegetarian vampires" to you?
