Nothing Can Bring James Cameron Down, Not Even Alice in Wonderland or The Hurt Locker

The King of the World, James Cameron got knocked down pretty hard this weekend.  First Alice in Wonderland (2010) beat Avatar (2009) at the box office, and then The Hurt Locker (2009) won Best Picture at the Oscars.  When asked about the event, Cameron said, "I like to be very zen about this. There's not much you can do about it.  I like to enjoy it for what it is.  This is the global event of the year for movies."  It's humbling to see such positivity and grace, but don't count Cameron out yet; his next film -- slated to open in 2011 -- could bring him more Oscar gold.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland (2010) shocked the world -- even the execs at Disney were floored when it was announced that the 3-D film took home over $116M on opening weekend.  The rumored production budget was over $200M, so they are on track to have a major money maker on their hands.

The epic tale of Alice in Wonderland (2010) came to life in 3-D and moviegoers couldn't get enough of the visually stunning masterpiece from Tim Burton.  Avatar (2009) was taken out of many 3-D theaters to make room for Alice in Wonderland (2010), and it paid off greatly!  So the lingering questions is, can Alice in Wonderland (2010) eventually catch up to Avatar (2009) in the coming weeks?

What a tough pill for James Cameron to swallow; first his film is booted out of many 3-D theaters, and then he finds out Saturday that Alice in Wonderland (2010) beat Avatar (2009) for opening day.  But he had the Oscars; life was still good, at least until the show began.  Slowly, The Hurt Locker (2009) began to overpower the evening, and when Kathryn Bigelow was named Best Director (the first female to receive this award), everyone knew that The Hurt Locker would own the night, which eventually took home Best Picture.

Before you shed too many tears for the film guru, find comfort in the fact that the writer/director is already hard at work on his next projects.  Plus, if you saw him at the Oscars, he could not have been more happy/proud when his ex-wife and confidant Kathryn Bigelow won the coveted Best Director award.

Cameron is currently in pre-production on his next film, the sci-fi thriller Battle Angel (2011).  No official cast has been announced.   Rumored casting calls were posted online with the following description, "female applicants age 16 to mid-20s who are athletic and agile with graceful movement and have an ear for languages and dialects."   Anyone want to take a stab at who should be cast as the next female action star?
