Kenna Rallies Friends to Honor Father by Trekking Mt. Kilimanjaro

Mt. Kilimanjaro is the world's largest free-standing mountain located in Tanzania, Africa.  It is the highest point in Africa, it is situated 3 degrees south of the Equator, and currently a slew of celebrities are climbing the mountain to help raise awareness and funds for the global water crisis.  The project is spearheaded by Grammy nominee Kenna to honor his father who grew up with bad water that nearly killed him and to help raise awareness to clean water.

Kenna gathered up his friends, superstar Jessica Biel, Into the Wild (2008) star Emile Hirsch, Daybreakers (2010) Assuie actress Isabel Lucas, Kick Kennedy, granddaughter of the late environmentalist Robert K. Kennedy, Jr., and many others.  The group of celebrities have teamed up with other environmental activists and trained climbers to tackle Mt. Kilimanjaro.  SummitontheSummit.com allows fans to track daily status of the climbers, check heart pressure, tweet words of encouragement, and check in on their progress up the 19,340 ft. mountain.

This fall PopStar caught up with Kenna at an event where he talked about creating this climb with his close friends to help raise awareness to clean water and to honor his father.  "The great thing about this climb is they are all friends of mine.  My dad almost died from water borne diseases as a child so I created this climb because of that.  If my dad had passed away I would not be here and all my friends know that so I am doing this as an honor to my dad and clean water."

Kenna went on to explain that water conservation begins at home in American and you can help.  The Grammy nominee hopes people will visit his website SummitontheSummit.com, stating, "Water is a huge subject; you can get into it in so many ways.  You can come to the site and send clean water and there is also tool kit so you can get involved."

To track the progress of the climbers head over to SummitontheSummit.com to get a detailed look at the sixteen person team trekking up the tallest mountain in Africa.  The interactive website will allow you to follow the climbers, learn more about how you can help raise awareness for clean water, and tweet the team much needed words of encouragement as they battle the elements to reach Uhuru Peak.  Check out a message from Kenna as he prepares to embark on a journey of a lifetime with his closet pals by his side.
