It was a CBS-kinda-day for Adam Lambert. First, his new network B.F.F. bailed him out of what might have been a ho-hum morning, after ABC canceled his appearance on Good Morning America (TV). Then Adam appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman (TV) to perform his newest single, Whataya Want From Me. The result was a kinder, gentler Adam. No controversy. No drama. No kiss. Just a good solid performance.
He appeared at the end of the broadcast, and was not interviewed by Letterman. Adam's demeanor, once again, matched the song de jour, and the song seemed somewhat relevant to his present circumstance with fans; "What do you want from me? / Just don't give up / I won't let you down / It messed me up / Need a second to breathe / Just keep coming around." He went on to sing "It's me / I'm a freak / But thanks for loving me / 'cause you're doing it perfectly..." A plea for patience perhaps, and a promise of more good things to come. But no apologies.
Dressed in black with his band in tow, Adam appeared to be very relaxed and fully engaged in the moment.
He produced what was necessary to distinguish himself as a relevant performance artist - a tangible connection to the lyrics. He convincingly summoned up the emotion needed to sell the song's message, and navigated though the performance as if it were a mini theatrical production unto itself, in true Lambert style.
Adam Lambert's next scheduled appearance will be on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show (TV), Dec.1st.
