Today marks the 1,000th article at PopStar! Although our website has been active for many years, it was not until June 19 of last year that we started writing celebrity news. It took us just over a year to reach this landmark and this is only the beginning! Expect an announcement from us soon about a massive expansion to the reach and scope of our news platform that will cover many more topics!
By happenstance, today is July 4th - Independence Day in America - a landmark of far greater importance than our own, but it certainly bring us great joy and pride to celebrate our own landmark on such a historical day. This article will take you down memory lane, bringing you the highlights of the last year that you simply won't want to miss; so without further ado, please join us in this momentous occasion...
When we first launched PopStar, it was our goal to create an environment where fans of many different backgrounds and interests could all come together in a spirit of peace and friendship. We had witnessed how fandoms would often argue with another and that even deep divisions could exist within a single franchise.
For example, Harry Potter often involved fights between Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint fans. And in a completely different genre, Star Trek and Star Wars fans were constantly competing against one another, becoming so fanatical that they would compare statistics on how much firepower a ship could create and use such statistics as ammo in their often irrational disagreements.
We simply couldn't understand this; it was as if both sides could not see that they both shared something in common, their love for celebrities and franchises, even if they were different ones. It is this common ground that we have advocated since the beginning and we believe it has eased tensions and created new friendships in the process. In other words, we seek to create harmony - we're not TMZ or Perez Hilton - and we hope this, more than anything else, it what people love most about us.
As far as our news, if you were to start with our first article (which was about Camp Rock) and continue reading one article after another, you'd notice that over time our articles went from short, blog-like posts to full-fledged, meaningful articles. We had a stitled beginning, but it didn't take us long to find our footing and we are very proud of what we have accomplished over the past year. We've avoided drama as much as possible, although we've admittedly become involved in a few disputes we felt could not be ignored.
But at the end of the day, there is one thing you can always count on from us: News that matters, brought to you in an uplifting manner, that upon occasion may even cause you to question what other media outlets attempt to espouse as truth (usually in the form of conflict or controversy). And coming very soon, we hope to be able to cover much more news than we ever have in the past by introducing you to new writers and different perspectives, so stay tuned for an upcoming announcement on the subject!
In the meantime, let's take a look back at many of the subjects we have covered so far...
In the past year, we have had the privilege and honor to interview more than fifty celebrities one-on-one, not to mention some of the special events we have attended which we will cover in another section within this article. The list below contains a complete list of our interviews in the order in which they were conducted.
PopStar has been invited to some pretty special star-studded events; each time, we've come back with some exclusive coverage to share with you! The future is bright and we look forward to bringing you even more coverage of various events moving forward. Here is a list of articles featuring the events we have attended; it's possible this list is incomplete. (I'll update this section next week.)
We have been running an annual contest called the Celebrity Love Awards since 2007. Follow the link to learn all about this important contest. In our first year, Rupert Grint won. In our second year, Jonas Brothers won. This year, Robert Pattinson leads the pack and at the time of this writing, the following are also eligible to win if the minimum number of users write to them.
Since the very beginning we have been giving away free prizes to our members. Last year, we gave away thousands of dollars worth of prizes in a variety of different contests. This year, we introduced you to the concept of MyStar Points which allow members to earn points and bid on items in our Exclusive Prize Auctions. This is something we have been very happy to provide to our members and we expect many more great prizes to give away as we move forward. Check out the links to learn more!
For those of you who do not know me, I am the Publisher and Editor of our entertainment suite. You can see my profile here. Truthfully, it's not important who I am, but I wanted to make a special thank you to someone who has been an invaluable asset to all of us.
